Lace up your sneakers! The Walk Massachusetts Challenge is back and better than ever. Your participation helps your local Council on Aging/Senior Center win money for fitness programs and gives you the chance to win one of several prizes.

The Challenges

Register on this site below, then choose one of these six challenges based on a Commonwealth of Massachusetts fun fact.

The Commonwealth Challenge

Walk 88 Days (at least 30 minutes per day)

Complete 88 days to celebrate the year Massachusetts became the
sixth state!

It is a 30 minute walk every other day for the duration of the challenge.

The Turnpike Challenge

Walk, Jog or Run 126.6 Miles (or about 253,000 steps)

Complete 126.6 miles to celebrate the length of the Massachusetts Turnpike from Boston to Lee!

It is about 0.7 miles or about 1,380 steps a day for the duration of the challenge.

The Shoreline Challenge

Walk, Jog or Run 192 Miles (or about 384,000 steps)

Complete 192 miles to celebrate the length of the Massachusetts
shoreline!

It is about 1.1 miles or about 2,090 steps a day for the duration of the challenge.

The Reservoir Challenge

Walk, Jog or Run 412 Miles (or about 824,000 steps)

Complete 412 miles to celebrate the number of gallons of water in Quabbin Reservoir!

It is about 2.26 miles or about 4,520 steps a day for the duration of the challenge.

The Capital Challenge

Walk, Jog or Run 655 Miles (or about 1,310,000 steps)

Complete 655 miles to celebrate the approximately 655,000 people living in Boston!

It is about 3.6 miles or about 7,200 steps a day for the duration of the challenge.

The Slam Dunk Challenge

Walk, Jog or Run 891 Miles (or about 1,782,000 steps)

Complete 891 miles to celebrate the first basketball game held in Springfield in 1891!

It is about 5 miles or about 10,000 steps a day for the duration of the challenge.

FAQ’s

The challenge runs May 1 to October 31. You may complete your challenge at any time within that period. You do not have to sign up by May 1 to begin.

The Walk Massachusetts Challenge is open to residents of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts age eighteen years or older.

Yes. Everyone must to register online in order to participate and be eligible for prizes. Only online entries are accepted.

Anywhere you want! You can walk indoors, outdoors, on a treadmill, around your neighborhood, at a mall, in your senior center, at a park or nature reserve, on the beach, with your local walking club, or even in place while following walking videos on YouTube. As long as you are walking, it counts.

There will be 85 winners: 10 people win a $50 Visa gift card, 25 will win a $25 Amazon card, and 50 will win a $10 Dunkin’ gift card.
